In the Golden Oldie days, in the 60's, they'd just put a bed in the hall and a screen around it. We'd have 50 bed units with 4 or 5 or 6 more patients than capacity. I can hear the gasps of disbelief. Now you old gals and guys know what I'm talking about.

In an extreme situation, we once put a patient in our clean utility/storage room. There were also 2 in the hallway.

The 60s.......... Hall nursing is still alive and well here in NYC, on a regular basis .As smaller hospitals close getting "eaten up " by big conglomerates it places tremendous pressure on the surviving hospitals. Plus God forbid we defer or admit our hospital can't handle it.
