I'm trying to decide if I should apply for an HCA scholarship or a Broward Health scholarship. The amount and terms are the same.
Broward Health hospitals are North Broward Medical Center, Imperial Point, Coral Springs Medical Center, and Broward General Hospital.
HCA hospitals in my area are Plantation General, University, Northwest, etc. HCA has preceptorships for specialties. I like that HCA is nationwide. However, I'm nervous about working for a private hospital.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

if it's the HCA that I have worked for for the past 3 years (orange park medical, memorial, twin cities, palms west....) than I would def do some research before signing your life away to them....I didn't have a good experience.
do a search on the florida board....you will find some pretty interesting stuff about hca.
look...
Thanks for your response. Would you please elaborate as to why you didn't have a good experience with HCA?
Thanks

my friend works for HCA in kendall regional, and she does not like it so she is currently looking for other jobs at this time.
HCA patient ratio 8:1
the managers & directors do not care so much for the RN's
my friend has been written up one time since november by the director for somethign that she asked an older nurse about- the older nurse said ok- but she got written up for that.
I went to an interview there, and the environment was so hostile- a place that is not for me.... so I gave back the money from the scholarship.
Broward- I have one friend who quit there because it was so bad there- the patient ratio the same- plus the patients are a lot sicker than they should be on that particular medsurg floor- the nursing assistant was assigned to the entire unit- so my friend ended up quiting and works in ER now in plantation and apparently loves it there.
anywho, I hear my friends like memorial system the best.
and I am not saying that you should not pick either one.
I am just saying that perhaps you should go and visit the hospitals before signing that 2 year agreement.
that's what I did- and that is why I decided not to sign the agreement papers.
at the interview I found out about the patient ratio 8:1 and when we have LPN it could go up to 12:1 on nights
Everything is computerized-which I like- but the patients are mostly elderly so they will be very sick.
so I ended up staying at my job when I was a CNA- with just children population- which I love.
I did not get a sign on bonus- but I did sign a one year contract for $1,500- they took out taxes on that- so I ended up with less.
but anyways- definitely go visit the hospitals and see if you can see yoruself working there once you get out.

Stay away from HCA. Broward Health hospitals, while public facilities, are leagues better.
