UH Manoa GEPN Cohort 2019

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

Aloha!

The application cycle opened a few days ago and was wondering if anyone else is applying to the University of Hawaii's Graduate Entry Program in Nursing (GEPN) for fall 2019?

For any current students in the program, how is the first year of the program? Do you find it difficult to maintain a work/life balance?

I'm excited to finally be applying for the DNP-FNP program!

Good luck everyone! :nurse:

@Oziak808 As far as I know, they do not provide an application review. I asked last year about specific areas of improvement, and they informed me they don't do that. They can only provide general advice. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

I just wanted to comment and say that I actually know someone who got accepted into the GEPN program who applied in December. She does think that she was the last person who got accepted. If you haven't applied yet, I say just apply and see what happens.

Also, some advice that many GEPN students told me before applying is that since the application is literally based on only 3 things: GPA, resume, and personal statement, make sure to make your resume and personal statement amazing!! There's not much we can do about our GPA except striving to continue to get good grades, but we do have control to make our resume and personal statement as astounding as we want it to be for the application.

Make sure to take your time and only submit your application when you are fully confident and satisfied with it. I sent my resume/personal statement to the learning center at UHM, to the NP/MD that I was currently observing, many of my friends and families, and some teachers that I knew would give me good feedback. I took in everyone's feedback into consideration, and continued to edit my essay based on them.

I've never put in so much time and effort in a 500 word essay before lol, but I honestly believe one of the biggest reasons I got accepted is because of my personal statement.

Also keep in mind that some people who applied to the program and got accepted may turn down the offer due to getting into more than one program. I would still apply if possible because you never know if a slot opens up.

Congratulations on making it the second round tenten.13! If you don't mind me asking, what did you do differently this time and what is your background (gpa, degree, extracurricular pertaining to nursing).

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else is waiting for a result? I haven't received any letter yet or a mention of it and when I asked Chris last week, he said that my application is still on further review. My full application was sent on Sept 18. Anyone else on the same boat? I looked at last years cohort and some people got accepted as late as December.

@arterycolfe808 Yes, I'm in the same boat. It was sent to the committee on September 19th. I haven't heard one way or another. When I asked in late September, they said about a month or so for a decision. Fingers crossed!

Just as an update, I got put on the alternate/waiting list. They will let me know if a slot opens up until July 15, 2019. Some people might back out of their spots, so I'll keep this as an option but ill also be applying to other schools.

Future applicants should turn in their application really early as the limited spots get filled quickly. I'm not sure if having a physical transcript ready helps but it takes them about 2 weeks to open up email transcripts. Don't know if this comes to play so take it with a grain of salt.

Hi I recently got accepted to the DNP FNP program for Fall 2019. Will there be a Facebook cohort group?

Congratulations! When did you find out?

I found out at the beginning of this month. I just found this forum and thought I'd chime in.

Aloha! I got the good news today! I was recommended for admission to the FNP track. Does anyone know if that means that we are FOR SURE in? The email made it sound like there was still another round to go but from reading older posts, it seems that we have been accepted.

You are for sure in. I asked the GEPN coordinator about that lol. He also sent me an acceptance letter as a pdf a week after I got the initial email. It requires you to choose whether or not you accept the offer of admission.

Congratulations! I am excited to meet you in the FNP track!
