I am currently in my second year as a school nurse and will be moving to Wake County in North Carolina. I have been trying to find who to call to find any positions that may be open in school nursing, starting around August. Does anyone have any ideas to help? I am willing to work in public or private schools.

NC varies. I'm in western NC, and work through the health department. Most NC school nurses work through the LEA (the school).
Good luck, and be open to other areas b/c of the state budget crunch. I've never feared for my job as a nurse until I started doing school nursing!

The NC state association posts job openings:
http://www.snanc.org/resources/resourcesdefault.htm
Other state web sites:
http://www.nasn.org/Default.aspx?tabid=60
The SNANC website just redirects you to the NASN website or to the LEA.
Wake Co. Public Schools are under a hiring freeze. I do not know what kind of private schools are around that area, but surely there are private schools there. There are jobs listed though, but none for SN's in Wake Co.
Durham Schools doesn't have anything listed.
Wake and Durham counties do not have any listings for SN's either.

You may also want to look to the Health Departments in the area. In Forsyth County, the majority of the school nurses are employed by the health department.

Hi! I am a school nurse in Wake County. Currently we are in a hiring freeze but there are vacant positions. Most of us work for the county, not for the school system. The county website is www.wakegov.com . I would encourage to to watch for listings. Something may be unfrozen before August, not sure. But we do have some new schools opening and we can only be stretched so thin. Good luck! I love what I do!
Wake County just posted some jobs last week: www.wakegov.com
