I was doing well on a med surg unit, liked the management and staff. They’re downgrading the unit. This is not the direction I want my career to go in. So like many others, I am looking for another job. I’ve applied and interviewed for med surg as well as some specialities. I’ve gotten job offers at my current facility for med tele units. I know the docs, some staff and they’re day shifts. I’m currently day shift. But staffing is a huge issue and matrixes would be challenging as I learn new skills. I also got offers at a different facility (bit nicer) for a med surg day shift and a cardiovascular neurosurgery fellowship program. This last one is really tempting! So much to learn and a rare opportunity! But it’s nights and a 2 year contract, though I could put my name on a wait list for day shift. I also have interviews coming this week for a couple other positions. I am so conflicted. Do I stay at a facility I know and try to learn a new speciality when matrixes are high? Do I go with my safe and known medsurg at this other facility for the sake of day shift and then transfer to a speciality there after 2-3 years? Do I take the CVNS position and tough it out until a day shift position comes up and get an amazing experience? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!
