Having a baby soon after graduation, concerned about starting my nursing career later

Nurses New Nurse

Any advice would be helpful :)

I graduate from nursing school with my BSN this June and will be having a baby in September. Originally I had planned on starting my nursing career asap after graduation but plans have changed a little! I will be staying home with the baby for the first few months. I know new grad jobs are difficult to get and many of the programs I have read about accept new grad nurses only within the first six months of graduation from nursing school. Is it still possible for me to have a nursing career if I do not start within the first six months after my graduation?

Thanks :)

I'm sure it is possible if you have an explanation why, you know?? It's hard to say though depending on how hospitals are in your area right now as far as their willingness to hire new grads and whether there is a shortage or not. You have to remember by the time you are ready to work that you will have to compete with all the other new grads that have since graduated. I would recommend taking your boards right away though before the baby comes. It would be a shame to put that off and then fail:( or have priorities change and never get to it and be back at square one when you finally do decide to go back to work, even if it's years later at least you will be ready.

Good luck to you whatever you decide to do:) I know I would have had a very hard time leaving my baby. I did babies first, then school! lol

I graduated last August and had a baby in September. I stayed home with her four months before taking the NCLEX and looking for a job. I got hired in a NG program after a month and a half of looking. Don't worry. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

That is great! Thank you so much for the encouragement!
