Have questions for a newby going for nursing @ osuokc

Great job of enrolling in your first prerequisite nursing courses. You are off to a good start! The prerequisite to Chem I is Intermediate Algebra. You should work on getting more prerequisite courses out of the way before you apply to the nursing program.The reason for this is because you earn more points with each course completed, especially the science courses. You have a good plan of taking 6 credit hours each semester. We admit on a points system and the points sheet is on our webpage.The science courses are generally more time intensive but they are among the most important courses you will need to complete your nursing degree. Please take a look at the nursing application on our webpage http://www.osuokc.edu/health/general.aspx and you should take the courses in the order you will need them . For example, the first semester you will need Chem, Eng Comp 1 and Psychology. Take these courses first and then take what you would need for the second nursing semester. I hope this helps!

OSU also offers some of your pre reqs in classes that you can do over 3 weekends. It works like this: class meets for 3 weekends Fridays eve 5-10 Sat 8-5 or 6 and Sun (cant remember if its half a day or all day) but after three weekends you are done and receive 3 credit hours!!!!! It is fantastic. I worked part time and have four children while doing it. I am finishing up OSU's nursing program this semester and can assure you that your determination will pay off. :yeah: Good Luck to you and you can't go wrong with OSU's program, wonderful instructors and great support system. I'm very proud to say I'm from OSU's nursing program.

Wow, that sounds great! Which classes did you take? I need all the help I can get. Working full time and being a mom I need to get as many pre-reqs out of the way as I can get or else its gonna take me forever to graduate. lol. Once you are acually in the nursing program how long does it take before graduating? I just want to have a plan and ducks in a row ya know? :confused: Also I need to make sure so I know when to quit my job to go full time at school. I should have all my pre-req and ralated done by Spring or summer of 2011 so I am hoping to get into the fall of 2011 but if you have to apply for the program by April and you are still in the related courses I figured the spring classes wouldn't count yet? I know you are a busy bee and all but your input is more helpful than you know. I am 31 so I don't really have a support group at night school ya know or else I would know most of these things. :stone

Sorry it has taken me so long to post, 4th semester is pretty time consuming. Let's see, I took sociology, government, and psych in the weekend classes. You can also get comp 1 and comp 2 out of the way in the same semester if you take them in the 8 week classes. First 8 weeks is 1 and the second is 2. The nursing program is 4 semesters once you start. Also I noticed that you have to take intermediate algebra, they offer this in the 8 weeks classes as well. Hope this helps!
