:yeah:I am very excited about taking Vickie Millazo's legal nursing seminar. I am tired of all the politics in nursing. I would like to know any obstacles anyone may have had or any time savings ideas. I would also appreciate any type of information anyone can give me on this. Thanks

I do have questions. I have been reading about legal nursing and I understand the marketing that has to go into it. I know this isn't an instant income. My concerns are reading some of posts that the other nurses have written, that have given up on this. I have gathered from what I have read that it was because of frustration and having to market. Is this what you have seen or am I missing something. I am taking the apprenticeship after the seminar and I am very excited about starting this career. How long have you been doing this?

Yes, from my own personal experience, the main reason some are not making it in the profession is they give up.

Many become disillusioned once they receive their formal LNC education and find it's not a get-rich-quick profession. Some enter into the profession for all the wrong reasons. But, for the most part, most find that marketing is hard and just give up when work doesn't come to them after they market for a couple months.

I also see some trying to cut corners with the marketing packet (letterhead, business cards, etc.). You cannot do that. You must have a high quality/professional-looking packet. Makes a profound first impression.

The Apprenticeship course is a good thing. Should give you some ideas.

I've been an LNC for approximately 6 years and have had my business for almost 5.

Did you market locally or did you focus on out of state? I will be getting 100 brochures with the apprenticeship and I want to distribute them wisely. What do you recommend?

I am wanting to go into another field where I feel like I can make a difference. I am so tired hearing about the "bottom line" at work. Anymore I feel like they are focused on the money instead of the patients. I understand money is a concern, but patient care is primary with me. Hopefully I will be able to find this rewarding.

I am also interested in venturing into the LNC career. I just want a reality check. I know that marketing is a big thing, but besides doing that, is there really a market for LNCs? Or am I chasing a very difficult to achieve dream? How difficult was it for you to get your first cases? Do you spend alot of money and time marketing yourself? Does the consulting pay for the marketing expense only or is it enough to make a living. I am a single mother of four and really want to jump into this career and be able to run my business from a home office. Please any ideas on how to start would help. thanks.

Marketing IS the key to success. Persistent, never give up, get back up after you're knocked down, and repeat.

Yes, there are many LNCs who are successful. We are necessary, needed, and perform a great service for the attorney-client. Most haven't a clue what we can do for them. I spend a great deal of time, still at this point in my career, educating them on what we have to offer.

First case came several months after starting.

Energy and money spent now in marketing is not as severe as in the first few months of my business. Most of your start-up expenses are major and after that, it's not as bad. But, you must stay on top of things, continue to tweak your ideas, equipment, etc., to be able to keep things professionally up and running.

I would not be doing this if what I bring into the business only covered my marketing expenses. Yes, I make a comfortable living...

If you are seriously considering this career choice, I suggest that you research educative entities like the AALNC or Milazzo programs. There are others, too. I always advise the RN to seek formal education.

But, be certain that you know what you are getting into first. This is not a stay-at-home and get-rich-quick career. It's the hardest job I've ever done and I've been in many nursing specialty areas. The business aspect of this career can be brutal.
