Have you looked into Career Schools?

There's a career school near where I live called Carrington College. Well, they are extremely appealing, but I'm wondering if they are even worth my time. I've almost completed ALL of my pre-reqs so I would definitely owe them less money than walking out with nothing, but I'm just curious if any of you have utilized them?

It's just so much money, and I don't know if it's REALLY worth it.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, career schools are for getting your LVN or CNA - they don't "transfer" regular college courses because they're usually for-profit, non-accredited institutions. I wouldn't go to one, but that's just me. When I first decided that I wanted to be a nurse, I wasn't sure how to go about it so I went to look at a place called "American Career College". It was super expensive and didn't seem very promising to me. If I'm correct, you can't transfer your college credit to one of those places. Maybe someone who has gone to one can shed some light on the topic.

I would say no. For profit is very expensive and it is more of a business than an educational institution. I am wary of them and think there are much better options out there.

If you really feel like you want to go there, check that your Board of Nursing approves them so you can sit for the NCLEX. Make sure your classes can transfer to another school if you are interested in pursuing higher education. Call local hospitals and be sure they hire graduates from that school. Ask Carrington what their retention rate is... How many students start there and actually graduate? Finally, I see that Carrington has multiple locations so check out their NCLEX pass rates on your states board of nursing website.

God luck!!

Thank you for the advice! I tried to get in once, but thankfully couldn't. Not because it was a bad school, just because of life. Now, I'm curious. I'd knock quite a few thousand dollars off because of my pre requisites. I've heard mixed reviews, but can't find a single soul that went there!

I tried Carrington, but wasn't accepted since my hesi was too low(88). So I decided to go the traditional route for now. I might dabble in the idea again, but I'm not sure.

Oh and it's an RN program. We don't have the lvn program where I live.
