Hello All !!!

I have a interview tomorrow for a position as a LPN in OB/GYN doctors office. This is my dream specialty:heartbeat:heartbeat. My goal is to land a position in L and D or post partum post graduating in December as a RN. I feel as though this will give me great experience and will get my foot in the door to my dream specialty. I have NO experience working in OB/GYN what so ever. When I sent my resume via email I told them this. I also added that I completed 96 hours of mother/baby in clinicals for school, which included LD, ante-partum and post partum. I also told them that I'm a very quick learner and that I like providing family centered care. I guess I sold them over the email so they called me in to interview.

If anyone have any helpful tips for the interview please advise. I'm going to do a lot more research tonight so that I can be well prepared.

I don't have any advice, but just wanted to say "good luck!", and I hope you get the job!

Don't mention your lack of experience in the interview. They know your experience from your resume. Instead, focus on what aspects of this job you like and how that fits with your skills and experience. Interacting with patients, organization, seeing many patients in one day, variety, etc.

Why do you want to work there? Avoid saying that you think this will be a good opportunity for you to get in L&D at a hospital. It will sound as though you are only using the job to advance your career. Focus instead on what you can bring to the facility and why you would be a good employee.

Know the answers to:

Tell me about yourself- Highlight your education and experience and your personality characteristics that help you fit in the job.

What are your strengths- at least two or three

What are your weaknesses- Share something you have struggled with in the past and have improved or a weakness that can also be a stregnth. i.e. you have high expectations or yourself or tend to be a perfectionist.

Dress professionally, shake hands, make good eye contact, smile, and be yourself. Good luck!

If I am understanding this, you want the LPN position in the physician's office and then you will leave to work in L/D as an RN in just 9 months? Or would you be willing to stay on after graduation? Sorry, but my thought is that the physician's office is going to want someone for longer than 9 months. Is this clinic job a stepping stone to get into a hospital job? Perhaps if would behoove you to consider working as a CNA on a L/D unit and getting your foot in the door that way?

Good luck! Maybe don't mention that you will be leaving in December though. They night not like that too much knowing you want to leave in less than a year!
