Hi,

I do not know if I am posting this in the right forum or not.

I have everything done, prerequisites and co-requisites net test etc.

So I am on the waiting list just waiting to be called.

What can I do to get ready for the clinical and the classes that go along with it.

(I know clinical is more hands on so not much I can do to prepare for that more looking for advice on getting ahead in classroom).

In another words if you where on the waiting list what would you study now to prepare yourself for when you got into the program.

I spoke to an advisor and a nursing counselor and they did not have any answers.

I am going to try others schools since they did not seem very helpful.

I am one of those people that has to work twice as hard as the average person to score even half way decent on a test. I feel like lots of time I study twice as hard as the person who gets an A and I end up with a B or C.

I thought about getting some books to studying for medical terminology, Pharmacology and general nursing.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated I am just trying to get ahead of prepare myself as best as I can.

Are any of the DVD products of Ebay worth buying?

Or are there any books I could buy or get from the library?

Thanks!!!!

I would say practice blood pressures and listening to heart and lung sounds on family and friends. Review your A&P, start to read some pharm (just be careful to not go too indepth than what a nurse will need). Cardiac drugs are very important so really read up on those! Those are my recommendations! Best of luck to you in nursing school! :paw:

This site has really helped me... http://www.learnursing.tv/index.html

It has a LOT of videos on all kinds of topics, and they really break it down so it's easy to understand and easy to remember. This one in particular might help you understand what nursing tests will be like so you get a head start on how to study for them: http://www.learnursing.tv/video_why_are_nursing_exams_so_different.html

(Most of these videos you do have to pay for... there are some free ones if you click on the "lessons" tab and then "free videos"... those are "how to study" videos.)

Also, I definitely agree with VistaGirl - practice taking manual blood pressure! Get a good hold on it now, so that when you're outside the clinical setting and don't have access to those wonderful machines that do everything for you, you'll be able to show your instructors that you are just as confident doing it all by hand. :)

Good luck!

I'd personally say relax and take it easy. You'll be up to your ears soon enough.

Study up on fluids and electrolytes, Arterial Blood Gases (HATED THEM -Search for ROME as a start), and Cardiac A&P.

You know, it really depends on the school... if you were in a school like mine, I would suggest that you start reading your patho/pharm and fundamentals stuff. I read a lot of suggestions to the same type fo questions you asked before I started NS in 2007. They said to just relax during the summer, but I wish I wouldn't have listened!! My school is intense! I've started studying for the NCLEX this summer and I still have a year to go. But back to your question... read some patho/pharm, fundamentals, and you have got to get the fluids and electrolytes for dummies book (it's actually the 'incredibly easy" series. Good luck :)

learn how to answer nursing questions... every question will have multiple correct answers and u must choose the "best" of the correct answers... start practicing questions. the more exposure u get to the questions the beter u will be come test time

I would study a medical terminology book, yes it isn't something that may be required. But it helps you learn how to break down words, when you don't know what they mean. Also I read a fundamentals for dummies book, so you kinda know what you will be expected to know. Other than that, do relax a little, enjoy the quiet time, cuz once you get started there is no quiet time.
