Hello all,

I have an assignment in which we were tasked with creating (5) research questions. It is my hope that you can provide feedback (replies can be a few sentences), about these questions with the following insight just below:

a. Has there been much research done in this area?

b. Would these projects give nurses worthwhile information?

c. Does the research question need to change?

The questions I generated are as follows:

1.) What is the impact of eliminating legumes from the diet on blood glucose levels of Mexican Americans 55-75 years of age who have controlled Type II Diabetes and ate legumes a minimum of once per day?

Independent variable: elimination of legumes from diet

Dependent variable: blood glucose level

*This topic intrigues me due to physician advice given to my mother. Further, through my own nutrition research, I've read that particular legumes can lead to inflammation and other negative effects in the biological environment.

2.) What is the impact of a high-stress occupation on following through with daily medication dosing of bipolar PTs?

Independent variable: high-stress occupation

Dependent variable: following through with daily medication dosing

3.) What is the effect of grandchildren visiting a grandparent daily on the rate of healing of fractured femurs of grandparents aged 60-80?

Independent variable: grandchildren visiting daily

Dependent variable: rate of healing of fractured femurs

4.)What is the effect of the inaugural use of nicotine patches on cessation of cigarette smoking by adult PTs 25-35 years of age who are hospitalized and have only tried a nicotine patch during that particular, singular hospitalization?

Independent variable: inaugural use of a nicotine patch

Dependent variable: cessation of cigarette smoking

5.) What is the impact of two ADHD diagnosed teenagers on the glucocorticoid blood levels of each pair of teens' mother?

Independent variable: two ADHD diagnosed teenagers

Dependent variable: glucocorticoid blood levels

a. Has there been much research done in this area? Do a Search on CINAHL search engine to answer this question for yourself.

b. Would these projects give nurses worthwhile information? Depends, but they seem rather narrow, and not too helpful to a hospital RN

c. Does the research question need to change? Yes, they are poorly worded and would be very difficult to actually gather accurate data regarding the question.

I think you need to reword these....what you are looking ofr is PICOT this resource should help PICO questions

Thank you for the reply barnstormin'. This is an initial assignment for the course and is meant to be a crash-course in public analysis/criticism. You are correct in that they need re-wording, I needed to bounce these off some pros in order to be sure of which direction to go.
