Hello, I’m considering a position in sleep medicine. Can anyone tell me what a typical day looks like and if it is feasible to see 16 patients per day? Also what is the typical pay for a specialty position like this? I looked on Glassdoor and it gives a range between $110,000 and $159,000 for VA. I just want to get input from someone who works in sleep.
Thanks

I know I'm a little late to the party here but are there any specific questions you have?
I've worked sleep medicine the last few years and enjoy it more than I thought. In my clinics it is mostly ordering sleep studies (or other testing I deem necessary) and managing PAP therapy and sleep apnea (obstructive, central, complex). I have a few true insomnia patients. Some hypersomnia as well as narcolepsy too. But probably 90% is sleep apnea and PAP therapy.
It gets a little redundant but once you get a flow you're good. Every now and then you get a little wrench thrown in but not often.

I sent you a PM!
Thank you! I’m not sure how to check a DM on here. Do you work in a specialty like neurology and sleep medicine combined or just a sleep medicine practice? As far as redundancy, sometimes that’s what I want.

I work strictly sleep medicine. I have positions in 2 different offices. In one my collaborative physicians are neurology and sleep and in the other pulmonology and sleep. But I just see sleep patients.
