Has anyone taken BIO156 or CHM130 @ Rio??

If so how is the midterm and final? What is on it?

Took Bio 156...but I can't even begin to remember what is on it. I took every pre-req online at Rio. In the case of all classes, the following advice holds true "everything is fair game." Be sure to know the review quizzes and textbook chapter questioins - or rather, the concepts behind them - quite well. Also, same holds true for the essays - be prepared to answer any of them. If an essay seems particularly long and difficult, you can always guarantee it will appear on the midterm (i.e.: identifying all stages of the Krebs cycle for example).

I took BIO156. The midterm has on it everything you cover in the first half of class, and the final has everything you cover in the second half. In addition, there are (I think) four essay questions on each test, a couple of them are taken from previous essay questions you answered, and a couple are from unassigned essay questions.

It's pretty straightforward - I found that if you do the assignments and reading, it's not too difficult to get an A.

If you're a strong writer and can put thoughts together well, it's not too hard to do really well on the essays. You'd think they'd be harder than the multiple choice, but they always seemed to save my grade on the tests.

Study the essay questions a lot every week. Do the reading and *understand* the concepts.

I took 156 @ Rio and chem in person. 156 is totally doable, just do the work and don't slack off. I've done most all my pre-reqs at Rio and I think that's what can get you through any class.

Recently someone told me "i'm going to do my pre-reqs through rio so I can cheat." ha ha, yea right! You use your books for the quizzes and slack on the essays and you won't pass the classes.

It is ironic that people think Rio is easier. I think you wind up doing twice as much work! It will be strange when I actually am back in the classroom this August at PC for their ADN program (or hopefully Banner in July!)...

I took both classes through Rio and as the other posters have said, studying is everything. It is really important to go over the essay questions in advance and write answers for them, even if you didn't have them to turn in for a weekly assisgnment. I found that writing the answers and then studying what I had written made my essay answers far easier and I actually remembered most of what I had previously composed.

As for CHM130 - I would highly recommend attending (if it is offered) an onsite study session. I did for both the midterm and the final and although I thought my teacher was great, I learned and clarified alot at those study sessions. Made chemistry very easy for me.

Lastly, DO NOT fail to study. I found with all of my pre-reqs at Rio, the profs aren't kidding when they tell you to read, stay on top of your assisgnments and don't think you can catch up later. Do everything they tell you to do on your syllabus and you will do fine.
