Has anyone been selected for verification?

So FAFSA has informed me that I've been selected for verification. I'm so bummed. They need my tax transcripts but I haven't been able to do my taxes yet this year due to having a baby with no social security card yet. We sent out for our daughters ss card but it could take weeks!

ugh I really need to get this done so I can compare what I'm eligible or . I have applied I four schools and have been accepted to one. But finances are a big part of m decision.

Had as this happened to anyone? Advice?

This is very common and nothing to be bummed about. There are multiple reasons for being selected for verification, and the reason you were selected is one of the most common. You haven't filed taxes so you couldn't use the tax info transfer tool. Pretty much everyone who doesn't use that tool gets selected for verification. FAFSA bases its funds off of your taxable income and what you report to the IRS. If you haven't filed taxes, then their is nothing to verify against currently. As soon as you get the social, file your taxes. It will take a few weeks for them to process and your info to be available in the info transfer tool on the fafsa page. And faxing your tax paper is not enough. They want the info transferred or they want a tax verification form that you can get from the IRS office, but only after you file.

And side note, I have been using financial aid for 2.5 years and have been "randomly selected for verification" EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Once you get verified, it isn't very long to get an award notice. And your award will be decided by your school based on available funds vs your need. So you need to put a school you are attending down to have them award you. But generally, if you EFC is 0 or under a few hundred, you will get the full grant amount. Plus if you need the loans as well, then you can almost always get the full amount as well because you can apply for additional loan funds if you aren't awarded enough to cover tuition and education expenses. Just be care full with loans because they add up quick and wont be fun to pay back.

After entering my 2012 info for estimate purposes, my efc is $3768. :/ pell grant estimate $1895. Boo. Maybe it will change once I update it. Since I was married, had a baby, an bought a house all in one year. Maybe my aid eligibility will change for 2013. I really hope so.

Thanks for for your response. I really thought I was selected because I did something wrong on my application.

Yes, once. All they really want to do is make sure the info you used (from your taxes) is really what you said it was. Super simple to do!

I had to do it last year. Thought I was screwed. Really simple. Only took about 4 days to get it resolved.

I get selected every time.
