Has anyone heard...AMA limiting practice?

...any news about the AMA performing a research study to DECIDE what certain nurse specialties and other areas of medicine can and cannot practice? I went to my chirpractor the other day and he said the AMA is now going to perform a research study to figure out what chiropractors, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, PA's, acupuncturists and other areas of naturopathy can practice. He was really upset about it, saying the AMA is ALWAYS trying to monopolize people and their specialities if there is no MD behind their name. How can they do this?

Anyhow..sorry to post this here, but it is nursing news and this would affect nurse specialities, so I was wondering if anyone knows more about it.
