Has anyone ever failed and had to readmit?

Published

Ok let me start off with the basics...I started off Nursing school really rough! My grandmother died my first day of clinicals and I had made the decision to go to her funeral...the day of my first exam. I missed that and another exam. I just did now, I took my last actual class exam today, PLUS my 2 make-up exams as well. All in the same day. After everything is all said and done...I can only miss 1 point. 1 POINT on my final for my one class. It is almost impossible to do so. I am afraid I am going to have to apply to readmit and hopefully get back in, in the fall.

I am not stupid, but my teacher was really difficult, a lot of people in my class are struggling. She was really nice, however, she made it so difficult to focus and actually understand what she was expressing, and only "read" powerpoints.

I know I am not the only one who had to go through this, but can anyone tell me what their experiences had been having to readmit? I know if I do readmit I will have a better understanding of the information and I know I am going to be able to go back more knowledgeable than I started with.

Can someone please tell me any advice?

Never had to personally do it, but I know a few people I go to school with that went through it. If you fail fundamentals of nursing you must reapply to the nursing program the following year. If you fail any course after that you can retake it once, if you fail again you have to wait 5 years to reapply to the program. Not sure what kind of advice you're looking for, but people definitely reapply after failing. Good luck to you

Fall '09 i failed fundamentals, had 2 wait til fall '10 to retake. Spring '11 took mental health passed that the 1st half then took med surg 1 & failed by .01. Was told by my advisor to change my career, i thought about it & almost considered it too! Fast forward to now i'll be starting my last semester this summer of my LPN program! I didnt have 5 years to wait to reapply. But hey its not the end of the world if you have to repeat just make sure to put in extra time & work. Good luck

I failed my math test my first semester in week 4 and had to readmit. I was nervous and did multiply where I was supposed or divide where i was supposed to. I got back in the following semester and learned to take my time on the tests!

If you fail reapply. You had a tough go of things, and like you said, you will have a better understanding of the material the next time. Good luck!

It's just that I feel like an idiot that's all. They made my make-up test sooo difficult get done! I mean, I took 4 tests yesterday. I know the material, I just rush through my exam's too quickly I guess. I guess I had a lot on my mind? It's a lot of information. I'm looking at the stuff for my final and I'm like I'm done with it...I can only miss 1 point, that's not a lot to miss. If I study now I can try to focus on it, but I'm so stressed out about only being able to miss 1 point!

I know people who fail a class then reapply for the next program intake(its a 2 year wait here). In our program you only need to take the classes you did not pass. In our program if you miss a test, on test day, you get a 0. We've been told there aren't any exceptions. I really think if you're going to go back you will need to understand that the instructors are there to facilitate your learning. They may just read off of the power points but it is your job to understand the information they are giving you. The power points are a great starting point because it's a perfect little summary, but again it is only a starting point.

I barely passed my Fundamentals course. Anything below an 80 is failing, I had an 81 at the end of the semester. Our professor warned us that no one ever passes the make up exam. They are notoriously hard and consist of 5 open-ended essay style questions.

Fast forward to my 3rd semester and I had to withdraw because I was not going to pass clinical which is the over riding factor to our grade. I'm still kind of devastated about it. I'm hoping to get back in for the fall.

I know they warned me to not have to do a make-up because they are hard...I know next semester to not have to do any make up exams. I mean, is it possible to pass an exam and only have to miss 1 point? I don't know what to do anymore.

Depends on how many questions are on the exam. If its a 50 question exam you can't even get 1 wrong. Good luck

Like the last poster said, if there are 50 Q's on the test then you will need to make a 100. (2 pts per question. Since you said you can only miss 1 point, you can't miss any if the test has 50 Q's.) If the test has 100 Q's by chance, then you could miss one question. (1 pt per question).

Nursing schools have varying policies on failing courses. At my university (BSN program), you are only allowed to fail one nursing course. For instance, if you fail Health Assessment in the Spring, you would then retake it the following Fall. That would count as your one fail. If you then happened to fail a second (or the same)nursing course, you would be dismissed from the program. You can re-apply to the program after 5 years, but only if the 2 classes you failed were Intro to Nursing, Patho, or Nursing Stats. If you fail two of any of the other nursing courses, you are ineligible for reenrollment or readmission. Students are allowed to petition the BSN student affairs committee for readmission, but it does not guarantee they will agree to readmit you. I don't think it occurs commonly, but I have heard of people "failing out" and then being readmitted into the program after successful petition.

Good luck with your final!

I'm at 200 pts in my class. I need 64 more points. The final is worth 65 Pts. if I miss one question I can still pass. but that's nearly impossible.

Nearly impossible? Maybe...but not completely impossible! I will agree with you that it would be quite the feat to make a 64/65 on the final (98.46 %), but it is still possible!

Don't give up yet! You still have a shot! Now, get to studying! Best of luck!
