Has anyone else noticed drop in jobs?

It seems like on the East Coast jobs are a little scarce as of recently. Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering if maybe it's just a seasonal thing. Also, anyone who has been traveling since 2008.......Have you seen the job outlook steadily increase/decrease since the economy tanked then? About the same? Just curious. Thanks.

Glad I found this post. I get all these recruiters wanting me to sign up with their travel agency. I am a med surg nurse and think it would be a great opportunity in writing but it scary not to have a secure full time job. Traveling seems a bit unstable at times.

Definitely less medsurg right now. LD/MB/PP have spiked drastically over the last few weeks. So frustrating to have medsurg nurses who want to work, but not jobs for them! Flu season usually helps increase medsurg and er though, so hopefully we'll see an increase soon!

I am in the ER. I was lucky to land a 26 week contract so I'm enjoying a little stability right now. Kind of nice to be able to "settle down" for 6 months. Didn't mean to scare anyone off. Been traveling since February and have not had to worry about a job yet. Just noticed it was slim pickings this last round. I think as long as you are willing to go to California or take a position in a "boring" location, you would probably be fine.

I thought I'd be able to pick a location and just go, but that's been difficult. I seem to luck out each time, and get my chosen location, but it was especially difficult this past time (~September). I wanted east coast, specifically Boston, but nothing was coming up. It was rough, but something eventually opened. I went 4 weeks without pay, though (in between assignments). I haven't been doing this since 2008, so I'm not sure how much it has changed, but this past time was different than getting my other assignments.

Oh yeah, I'm ICU.

OMG YES! I was off all summer due to surgery, but I've been looking for almost 6 weeks! I do med-surg, but everyone seems to want ACLS all of a sudden! It's driving me nuts! I've been traveling for 5 1/2 years and its never been this slow. One of my recruiters (I've expanded to 5 companies) said she has never seen this either in her 12 years. Creepy. And usually it picks up with a hurricane, but she said its slowed down even more! Good luck!
