I have a chance to switch to nursing BSN with no academic penalty I was just wondering if anyone has worked in ultrasound to compare? I like the program but it seems like there's alot more variety in nursing.

I haven't worked in U/S, but I did work as a tech assistant in a large radiology practice during nursing school. The biggest concern that I heard from the techs (U/S, x-ray, CT, MR, etc.) is that they had limited flexibility if they wanted to branch out and do something else. You start out doing U/S, and 30 years from now, you'll likely be doing the exact same job in the exact same role. With nursing, there are more opportunities to try different specialties and healthcare settings. It's also fairly easy to transition into the nurse practitioner role if you so choose.
The flip side is that the actual care can be quite different. Some people think that U/S is 'cushier' than some fields of nursing (i.e. you probably won't get pooped or vomited on). You'll probably spend much less of your career doing night shifts as a U/S tech (vs. nursing, or even CT/MRI techs).
It really depends on your interest and goals. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for your response. I have decided to get my RN degree I have already taken pre-nursing a few years ago so luckily I have the pre-reqs and can apply to pursue my nursing degree ASAP :)
Ultrasound is a wonderful program alot to learn and very interesting although I can't see myself doing it for the next 30 years. I think nursing although it will be a difficult route is one more suited for me.
