I applied to VCU's traditional BSN program and will find out if I got accepted mid march. I thought I would be more relaxed after I actually applied but I am so nervous now because all I can do is wait! Does anyone know how they tell you if you got accepted or not? Do they only send out a letter telling you or is through email too?
Also, does anyone know what a good GPA and ACT score is considered? - like what scores/GPA would give you a likely chance of getting accepted? I have no idea what my chances are and I want to have realistic expectations when that letter comes (if it comes).

My daughter was accepted last year into the BSN program at VCU as a freshman. The freshman class started out with 32 and now is down to 30. I believe that they're accepting 34 into the program as sophomores making the class 64. You should be hearing soon because the school of nursing is having a get together with the two classes once everyone finds out. My daughter has two friends that are presently at VCU (not in the program) that have applied for next year so she's waiting for them to find out too.
She absolutely loves VCU and the school of nursing.
Where did you go to school your freshman year?
Please let me know if you find out.

al_e,
my daughter heard by an actual letter through the mail.
Have you heard anything yet? My daughter says that all the freshman nursing students are trying to get one of the advisers to let them know when the letters are going out (they have friends that want to get in) but they are very tight lipped about it other than saying soon.
Please post when you get your acceptance letter!!! Good Luck.
I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!! I live in Illinois now but my father is in the Army and he is being stationed in D.C. this summer which is why I planned on going to school in Virginia. Do you think you could ask your daughter what dorms are the best to live in if you are a nursing student? (I was thinking about Ackell, Cary and Belvidere, and Broad and Belvidere for dorm choice). Also, are there any programs for nursing students that allows them to room together? I am going to call my academic adviser on Monday to ask her a couple questions because I have never visited the campus before. Any other information from you or your daughter would be greatly appreciated!
Congratulations!!!!!! You are one of 30 that have been accepted! You should feel very special.
Unfortunately my daughter doesn't spend any time on Allnurses but I can answer your questions. YOu will meet my daughter once you start the program. There were 30 freshman accepted this past year that will be joined by the 30 sophomores (you being one of them) making a class size of 60. My daughter knonws many people that either got wait-listed or didn't get in.
As far as dorms, this past year they put all the freshman nursing students in the same suite with other nursing students and they were all on floor 9 of Brandt Hall but that's only for freshman students. My daugher is sharing a house down the road from campus with 5 other nursing students next year.
As far as dorms go for upper classman at VCU there are several nice ones but none specifically for nursing students.
I know your advisor and she will be able with you with deciding on a dorm. As a sophomore most of your classes are still on the main campus but starting second semester you'll have a class or two in the School of nursing building. It's an amazing building, very new.
The dorms you mentioned are more like apartments and they are VERY nice!
I'm so excited for you. My daughter loves VCU. I will be happy to answer any of your questions.
I don't know if you have a home church but my daughter goes to Commonwealth Chapel and loves it. It's non-denominational. Quite a few of the nursing students go there, it's walking distance from campus.
Again, ,congratulations again for your acceptance, you're one of the chosen few!
Here's the facebook page that has the VCU nursing students 2013. You can meet some students there that might be looking for roommates.

Would you like me to put you in touch with my daughter? I told her about you but then you didn't post again so I'm not sure what your plans are. Let me know one way or the other. Did you talk to the adviser today?
