Has anybody ever got a felony record being withheld adjudication and apply for nurse

Published

Has anybody ever apply in a nursing school with a felony record being withheld adjudication meaning I'm not convicted in miami or state florida......? Please I need answers because I really don't want to go to a school were later I cant sit for the state board exam. And I've already try calling the florida nursing board and they cant give me a straight answer, they just tell me to risk it.

This is an old thread but I to wanted to ask for advice. Currently in Navy Reserves, recently accepted to Chamberlain for BSN. Adjudication withheld in Florida case, originally arrested on felony (assault with deadly weapon BB-gun) and plead down to (assault- lesser included offense) misdemeanor with probation. Successful completion of probation and now 3 years later. Currently going through background screening with clinical compliance team. I feel defeated and need reassurance!

@Shakespere026 Hi Shakespere! Did you pass your background screening? I have a couple misdemeanors that are approx 15 years old and am feeling discouraged about even applying to a nursing program.

I initially failed my fingerprint scan but was ultimately allowed to continue after the clinical compliance team looked at my final charges that were plead down. The big question at hand is making sure you will be able to apply for licensing in your state. Calling is useless, you will need to comb through your states board of nursing disqualifications. In my case adjudication was withheld for misdemeanors. So nothing regarding the case is actually on my record now. I would push until you are physically told no. I have had a lot of bridges to cross but I am now finally in school moving forward. One of my close friends told me I would never get in. I am also in my final steps of my commission program.

@Shakespere026 did you need a moral waiver to get into the navy reserves?

I’m in the Navy but yes a civil waiver

I was already in when I applied for commissioning

We cannot offer legal advice per TOS. But just the same, it goes case by case basis with state. What another person may have been told yes, you may get rejected and vice versa. Only you can decide if it's worth the risk

@Shakespere026 I’ve got adjudication withheld on a felony battery plead down to a misdemeanor battery. I was hoping to get it as well, you think there’s any chance?

Look up your state’s board of nursing statutes and administrative codes. Your school will review your charges making sure you can complete clinicals. It took my school a month to approve me.

@Shakespere026 I wanted to know about getting into the navy with adjudication withheld

You will need to talk directly to a recruiter. Again, case by case, depending on details. My ex hubby is a retired recruiter and this type of thing comes up often

I have two felonies and I went to school in florida and graduated but since florida had approved the new bill about not being able to sit for your boards until 15 years after the conviction/probation. I had to take my NCLEX else where but now that the same bill is amendedit might not be a problem. I'm also working as a RN. GOOD LUCK

Do you have a Compact license. I have 1 felony that was 23 years ago. Really hoping for the best.
