Harper hospital

Published

Has anyone ever worked for Harper hospital or any of the major hospitals in Southeastern Michigan? I was thinking of working as a nurse extern at Harper and was very impressed with the Nephrology unit. I would like any info you guys can give me? I wil be graduating in May 04 and except clinical, I do not know anything about the hospitals in this area. What are the better hospitals to work in your opinion?

What's the average pay for a nurse with their BSN coming straight out of college with no experience for the Detroit area?

Check out DMC:

http://www.dmc.org/jobs/

If you search under DMC employee, they'll list pay rates.

Listed is $22-$30.1

I'm not sure how the pay rate for new grad's work. I do know we hire many (Harper/Karmanos). I absoulutely love my work at the DMC, the staff on both the neuroICU and GYN/ONC floor I work are very helpful, willing to teach, and just fun people to be around. Which is why I'm a little crazy and keep two jobs during school. Gotta keep my foot in the door. :)

I'm also a fan of Detroit. I went Los Angeles to Chicago to Flint, MI. You better believe I was moving to Detroit first chance I could. City girl at heart. It's dirty vintage buildings surviving in the shadow of new business and pre-fab lofts gives the city so much of its character. One of the best music scene's around, the culture and art of Detroit is constantly evolving.

And with every major metropolis, there's good...and then there's bad...and sometimes even shady...lol

I love the good, and well, respect the shady.

People who love this city, will defend it. I am one.

Stepping off the soapbox, now.

Jenrninmi do you have something against Detroit? :angryfire Just because it's in Detroit doesn't make it a bad place to work. People kill me passing judgement!!! :angryfire

Um...OK. :uhoh21: . I hate the Detroit area. Maybe the person I was posting to likes to live/work in an upper-middle class area like me. I don't happen to feel safe when people come up to me asking me to hand out money to them...call me crazy. I don't think I'm the only one to feel that way. lol. I like a quiet, safe area. Too bad you're passing judgement on me. You don't even know me.
