I was 19 years old, had just been moved to an ortho floor from ICU where I had been comatose for about 3 weeks, had both arms in casts, a leg in traction, and was recovering from multiple surgeries.

I was not a happy camper.

A friend of my sister was visiting and wanted to cheer me up, so she told me what she thought might be a fun thing for me to do: At a time when I needed nothing, I could put on the call light, and when the nurse came to the door, I could say, "Just checking to make sure you're doing your job!"

Right.

Even as a young adult layperson, I thought that was a dumb idea.

Hope you have no patients who suck you dry wasting your time and experience a Happy New Year!
