I didn't even know it was this week. I've been a CNA since 2008 and I start the BSN program this fall. I love my job as a CNA and plan to keep it while I'm in nursing school since I will only work weekends now. I think being a CNA gives us invaluable experience and will help us in nursing school because we know what it's like to get our hands dirty lol. We'll know how to do patient care too.

I've also noticed that nurses who were CNA's first are better at their work and are understanding of the CNA's work loads instead of just ordering them around like some other nurses do who weren't CNA's first. I also had this nurse at the hospital while I was a CNA still not know how to correctly put on a pair of depends which got all over.

I am also a CNA, workin in a LTC facility. I wil be going on for my RN as well, and feel that my time spent as a CNA is very valuable. Last night I was discussing this with our floor nurse, a current LPN ( sitting for Rn boards in July) and she never worked as CNA and feels like this hindered her a little in her current position.
I have heard from many nurses that being a CNA first has greatly helped them out, and I do believe that former CNA's make the best RN's.
Best of luck to you!

Hi there!
Like you, I also work as an aide in a LTC facility.
I have heard many nurses state that working as an aide is very beneficial. I love my job as an aide!
