Had to leave early- what to tell the patients?

Published

Yesterday I was in a patient's room when suddenly a wave of nausea and dizziness hit me like a rock. I told her "Be right back" and ran out of the room to go vomit.

Turns out I definitely had a stomach bug of sorts that just hit me fast, and I ended up going home and never went back in her room.

What do I say to her when I go back?

She's a patient who's been here a long time who I've been assigned to a lot. I think she'll ask.

I'd just say I suddenly got ill, but am OK now.

The nurse that took over for me must have told her I was ill, because when she saw me today she came up to me and asked if I was feeling better. I told her I was. Then she surprised me by saying, "Good, cause I was worried I got you sick."

She was worried she got ME sick? She's the one that's been profoundly neutropenic for a long time. I was like, "No, definitely wasn't your fault. I was more worried I would get you sick, but I think it was because of something I ate."
