Gwynedd Nursing or Widener Nursing?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm trying to decide on what college to go to: Gwynedd College or Widener University. I'm going to play basketball and major in Nursing. The problem is that I only got into Widener's school of Nursing. The thing is that isn't Gwynedd's school of Nursing better than Widener's? Doesn't Gwynedd's Nursing students do clinical's in their first year compare to Wideners' students doing it in their third year? If I go to Gwynedd I would have to take the pre-req's in the first year and re-apply sophomore year. Would it be worth it?

Opinions and suggestions are appreciated!!!

At Gwynedd Mercy no matter how many courses you transfer you basically start out as a freshman once you transfer there. No exceptions. So you can do a year somewhere else, and transfer to Gwynned Mercy and you come in as a freshman and will have to be there two years. You then have to come back for another two years after that to get your bachelor's. So do you think it's worth it to spend three years minimum to get an associate at Gwynedd when you can just do the four years at Widener and have a bachelor's? Also you will be taking general classes as well as Nursing classes at Gwynedd which can be very overwhelming for any student but especially one just starting college. Nursing is hard enough on it's own, so doing clinicals along with other classes isn't always a good thing. At Widener you do your general classes and then you are able to focus on your Nursing classes afterwards. Also cost is an issue, did Widener give you scholarships or grants or other aid? Think about what would be cheaper because you don't want to come out of school with a ton of debt.

Don't get caught up in what's a "better" nursing program because people can go to the same school and love it and you will have others who hate it. Every program has positives as well as negative things about it. I know people who have been to some of the "best" programs in the country and they all aren't the best nurses I have encountered. Just because you went to a "good " or "better"nursing school doesn't mean your skills as a nurse will be any better than if you had went elsewhere. It's on you what you end up getting out of whatever program you attend.

Also not to be mean, but you said you were only accepted to Widener, so why are you factoring Gwynedd into your decision making? There is no guarantee that even after doing a year elsewhere that you will be accepted to Gwynedd, but you know already that you are in the Nursing program at Widener. You shouldn't gamble on a maybe.
