HELLO ALL!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FUTURE JUNIOR CLASS AT GTC!!! My name is Jennifer and I am the class President of Class of 2013. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hello and Congrats to you as well. I wanted to know what to expect from the first two classes and when did clinicals start for you. A lot of people say Nursing school is difficult but was it actually hard or was it just you had a lot of information to cover in a short period. I also wanted to know if scrubs are worn or lab coats and what kind of shoes do we have to wear. Thank you so much for reaching out to us.

HI President Jennifer! :) Thanks so much and good luck to you. I was wondering if the senior class helps the junior class out when needed? Can we ask you all questions? How exactly does it work?

Thanks,

Kiki

Hi! Thank you soo much for reaching out to us :) I've just been wondering what kind of schedule you guys have, what days do you have school and what days do you have clinicals? Also, i've read other posts where current students suggest books that are super helpful and are not included on the list given by the school, are there any you would suggest?

Hello Kamecee! Congrats on getting into the program and i apologize for the delay in responding. What to expect your first two classes. Well, i would say expect ALOT of information coming at you and a feeling like you have been thrown to the wolves. lol. This feeling is temporary but the first two tests are a bit of a shell shock. I came into the nursing program with a 4.0 and NEVER making anything lower than an A in my prereque classes. Needless to say, I don't have a 4.0 right now BUT I am doing well. Its very possible. The key is to read and try not to fall behind in your course work. I believe the first exam was over about 15 chapters... Tlak about information overload! But the tests are different. They arent "what is the definition of..." it is truly about application. And yes, more than one answer will be correct. Its is about which one is the MOST CORRECT answer because as a nurse, you can do several right things for a patient in cardiac distress, but which answer is the most accurate? Which answer is imperative to saving that persons life. You get the drift :). Many people where their class shirts to class. In fact, it is kind of like unsaid uniform. lol. Its so easy to buy like two shirt and just wear that. We are at school to learn and the less thought you have to put in to what you are wearing, THE BETTER! The officers are getting together a package for you all to welcome you in the program so you can purchase your shirts and stuff and be ready. We bought ours from the 2012 class and it makes you so proud to wear!! After all, we all know how hard we worked to get to this point> FEEL SO VERY PROUD!!!!! You are going to be an inspiration to the AP folks in this building as well. They will be looking at you all as a beacon of hope to get through their classes!

Hi Kiki!! Congratulations to you!!! The senior class for us has been a great resource for us whenever we have had a question or needed guidance and I know I can speak on behalf of our class when I say we want to be there for you guys as well. if you all have a question, PLEASE feel free to ask. Especially for resources such as shirts or decals or anything of that nature. If you are speaking on behalf of school work, honestly, the best resource is your very own class. many people swear by the wonderful study groups, especially if you are entering the program with friends from your prereq classes. When we do orientation, we will be giving you our contact information, so if you need anything, we are glad to help. And of course, I am making it a point to check this often in the interim :)

HI METOYOU! CONGRATULATIONS ON MAKING IT INTO THIS AMAZING PROGRAM! Well, in fundamentals, you are at school 3 or 4 days a week. if you have checkoffs, you will be at the school 4, but primarily, it will be two days of lecture (one day for fundamentals and one for pharmacology) and then one day of lab. After about a 6 weeks (in October) you will start clinicals, most likely going into Geriatrics first. So in the first 6-8 weeks, you wont have clinicals. In regards to books, I can only speak for myself and although i have an nclex book (Saunders), I have yet to really use it as a study tool as yet. I may try and do a couple of things this summer, but your text book and your textbook study book is what is helpful... and of course the powerpoints. You will find that the books they ask you to get is MORE than enough. I think the pharmacology study guide is very helpful and I believe that book was optional, not required for us.

Hi! My name is Alison Flores, and I was also accepted into the Nursing program starting in the fall! I tried to look for the group, but I couldn't find it. Could you add me please? My facebook is under Alison Cole Flores. Thank you and can't wait to meet you girls! :)

Just wanted to let know whoever is interested that I will be selling my books from first year. I will sell it for less than what you can get from Amazon.com so let me know if anyone is interested! I already bought mine from the graduating class and soooo happy because I saved a good deal. First year books are EXPENSIVE!!! Expect to spend at least $500 for books and supplies. I think I spent about $600 including uniform.
