Well, some of you may have seen my posts in the pasts where I've been group1'd for not giving a two week notice four years ago at a small hospital in east texas. I also have one for absenteeism where I had a wreck during my 90 day orientation at my next job and was let go since I lived out of town and wasn't able to make it in.

Here are some things I've learned over the last year or so of dealing with this. 1) If you're honest up front with your recruiter about what happened and why you were group 1'd BEFORE they run the background check, they are likely to be more forgiving. 2) The negative information only stays for 7 years. So in less than 3 more years, my two week notice and absenteeism comments wont hurt me. They all change to "This information is over 7 years old" - I got this from the rep at Group 1. All derogatory comments are gone. So while it IS a temporary blackball, thank god its not permanent. Also, some of the hospitals/recruiters are starting to wise up to how the system's been abused and do appreciate your honesty.

Just thought this may help. If anyone has had any luck disputing things please let me know. I disputed these once and tried a different approach but was met with the whole "this was previously investigated and is considered a frivolous dispute" reply.... go figure. So it appears I'm stuck with it.

Anyone have any success stories? Can you share your approach and how you got things handled or removed?? Would love to hear it while we come up with a way to slay this beast.

I have a friend who successfully got removed. It took two years and involved legal charges against the employer who placed it.
