I had heard that grossmont college lost their accreditation but I read on their website and others that they do have accreditation. so maybe someone can clear up the confusion....

They lost their National League for Nursing Accreditation. The handbook says it was valid through June 2007 and that they are reapplying for Fall 2008.

I found an old article from the Union-Tribune:

I know that if you graduate from Grossmont with an Associates Degree in Nursing, without the NLN Accreditation, you can still take your licensing exam. The lack certain accreditations matters if you're trying to apply to get a higher degree, RN-BSN, RN-MSN. I've looked up getting my RN-BSN in Hawaii, and if the college you received your ADN from doesn't have the accreditation that Hawii requires, than you have to take extra classes before you can enter their RN-BSN program. I'm not going to Hawii, but I just looked it up.

SDSU just "made a deal" with Grossmont concerning their RN-BSN programs. I heard that if you're graduating from Grossmont's SON, then you can start getting your RN-BSN, through SDSU, during your fourth semester at Grossmont. So, I'm obviously going staright to State after graduating from Grossmont.

So, the lack of Grossmont having the NLN Accreditation means that when you go for your BSN or MSN, depending on the college, you might have to take extra classes, or an extra test, to get into that BSN/MSN program. You will still be able to take your NCLEX, because Grossmont is accreditated here, http://www.grossmont.edu/nursing/accreditation.asp.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes you can go straight to SDSU after your 4th semester at Grossmont, ONLY if you have met all their general ed. prerequisites, including 1 year of chemistry, ie; 1 semester of introductory chemistry (4units) and 1 semester of organic chemistry(4 units). OR you can take one combined integrated chemistry class called Chem 102 at SDSU or Cuyamaca College in el cajon, which is 5 units and is one semester long. But they don't really recommend taking Chem 102 if you have zero chemistry background. They also have u.s. govt req's and upper division humanities courses.

i think grossmont just got their accreditation back, correct? well til 2010 i think. i did not know about the sdsu deal. are you guaranteed acceptance in their BSN? i'm finishing up my gen eds this semester and applying there but if i don't get in then i will probably be attending grossmont or city in the fall. but if thats the case then i would definitely go in my fourth semester to sdsu. thx for the info

They have acheived candidacy status with the NLN according to their website through spring 2010 and after that time, I would assume full accreditation. When I graduate, Dec 2010, I really hope they have full accredidation so I will surely post again when I find out the definite answer to this question.

Just to update, Grossmont got back their accredidation with the National League for Nursing (NLN) as of FALL 2008. We also just got CA-BRN approval for 8 more years!!! WOOOOT1111:yeah::bugeyes:
