Greetings from Missouri

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi guys,

Pre-SRNA from Missouri here. I am a 2008 graduate of nursing school at Pittsburg State Univ (KS) and have been in the Cardiac ICU at a Level 1 Trauma Center since June 2008. I am applying this summer-fall for CRNA school. I have a 3.45 GPA with the completion of Chem I and Lab, Organic I and Lab, Microbio, and A&P (I had a bad experience in Chem II and Organic II lecture, which I'm willing to repeat as necessary) as well as a year of High level Biology. I am also taking my GRE in March and currently enrolled in a Graduate level statistics course.

I am 23 and have known I wanted to be a CRNA since I was a freshman in College. I have set up all my schools I'm applying to, if anyone has any comments or advice it sure would be appreciated.

University of Iowa, Missouri State University (St. Johns), Truman Medical Center (UMKC), Rush University (Chicago), Northwestern (Evanston, Ill), and UT Chattanooga

Chattanooga is my goal to get into. Thanks guys and if you have any questions let me know and any advice is appreciated. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

If I may ask, why these schools? I am looking at several schools, but mine are by location. Your's seem to be all over. Why UT-Chatt and not UT-Memphis or MTC? Just curious...

Go Gorillas!! I'm a PSU grad turned CRNA. Feel free to email with questions....

I think I recognize your 'name'. Glad to see you these boards!

I just got accepted to Baylor (still jumping around with excitement). Your grades look good. I had not so hot grades (Cs, ahem) in O chem II, and in Biochem I and II, had to explain those to the admit committee. I was like "but if you look at my nursing school grades, you can see that I have matured both as a student and as a person. . ." Sooo, just be ready to explain not so pretty grades. If I hadn't gotten in this year I would have at least retaken a biochem for sure.

Take the GRE and do well, doesn't have to be perfect, but but study and do your best. I think most places like 1000 or higher. I would also recommend getting your CCRN. I don't have mine yet (registered to take it though!) and I think that would have helped at the other school I wasn't accepted to. It would have given me a bit more confidence I think, one more thing to show the admit committee that you have done something to pursue the degree.

Good luck to you! Keep in touch via the boards. Lots of good info here. Like anything, you have to take what you are told with a grain of salt. Everybody has opinions, everybody has had different experiences, try and learn from all of it, even if sometimes the news isn't what you want to hear or maybe in wasn't presented with much tact. Sometimes I post after a long day's work and realize I sound kind of angry :) Ooops! :typing:

I have some friends who live in Chattanooga, and it just seems like a great town and a place I would maybe like to live after school, so I thought why not apply there. I have live in Missouri my whole life and went to college in SE Kansas so I am just looking to kind of move around in the world and see a little different part of it.

I recieved a D in Organic II lecture and Chem II lecture. I attribute it to being out on my own for the first time in college, and playing college football, while not learning how important classes were at the time. But I was on the Deans list (All-A's) many semesters after that so I think I have proven that I am serious about my academics now.

I am taking the GRE in Late March and studying for it. I plan to get my CCRN in July/August.

Thanks for all the encouragement and words of wisdom.
