Hi,
I'm looking to start fulfilling my volunteer requirement in order to apply for UW in 2018. Does anyone have any recommendations for settings that allow you to interact in patient care as a volunteer? I really want a place that fosters interactions between nurses and volunteers and lets me get patient care experience. I'd love to find a great nurse mentor!
Thanks,
Julie

Look into volunteering as a Family Care Giver for Hospice. FCGs are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team; you may get to know your patients' nurses as they come around to check on the patients.

I noticed the Swedish hospital system uses a lot of volunteers. Most of them are aspiring medical students or retirees.

I second the recommendation for volunteering with a hospice program, there are several quality hospice programs in the greater Seattle area. If you want specifics I can PM you.
i would love specifics! i tried contacting one place and they never got back to me, but i was thinking hospice might be a great way to go. i'm in NE seattle, near UW. please PM me.
Sent you a PM. If you have further questions please write back.
