Great day on OB...

I'm a nursing student on the OB rotation, and I had the best day today... did I see a delivery or bathe a baby or observe a C-section? Nope--I just cared for two laboring mothers and had to leave shortly before they delivered. Even though this is the end of my OB rotation, it was the first time I got to be around mothers in the first stage (I've seen some pushing and many deliveries). I was afraid it would be dull... it was anything but! For the first time, I was with a couple when they heard "You're having this baby today". I palpated a woman's contraction and talked her through the pain. I witnessed the change that comes over a woman's body when she enters transition. I helped a husband figure out how to comfort his wife during labor. I finally got to use my doula training--and above all, realized that there's nowhere else I really want to be besides OB.
