Talk to your school's financial aid office. They should know of a lot of grants and scholarships that will come up that you can apply for. I am a student at a local community college and they have a mailing list. Whenever they have a scholarship or grant come up, they email everyone and give them the info.

Grants are based on financial need. A pell grant is a grant you do not need to pay back. Are you working? Are you single or have children? As an example, I am single but my children are grown. I do work full time but make less than about $27,000 a year. I get pell grants every semester and the amount I get is enough to pay for my classes ( 12 credit hours) and I actually get an excess of about $1500 each semester to pay for books, supplies etc. This year the maximum amount of the pell grant is $5,550, split between 2 semesters. I copied this from my school website:
Grants and some scholarships are "prorated" for less then full-time (12 or more credits) of enrollment.
For example, a $5,550 Pell Grant will pay:
$2,775.00 in the spring for 12 or more credits of enrollment
$2,106.50 in the spring for 9-11 credits of enrollment
$1437.50 in the spring for 6-8 credits of enrollment
$769.00 in the spring for 1-5 credits of enrollment
So, you will want to talk to the financial aid dept. at the school you plan to attend and they will tell you how to proceed. You can also go to: fafsa.ed.gov to get more information. Good luck..
