Hi Roaa! I am also a high school student and I am interested in applying to the BSc Nursing program at UofA, Macewan and UofC.
Regarding what you heard about the UofA, I contacted some of the nursing students in the university and they all told me that the program has been completely redesigned and improved. Now it's more like lectures and classes than self-teaching like it was before. So I would advise you to apply to both UofA and Macewan just to be on the safe side.
Since we're both applying for Fall 2016, we might end up in the same university!
If your marks are above 85% you will get accepted into the university of Alberta. Apply there. Grant Macewan you need 80% however, yes, they are dumb with how they accept students. They do accept people based on the date of application rather than grades which sucks. I would recommend to apply there as well and if you get in great, if you don't, there is always other options.
hey guys, I have applied as well for the Fall 2016 in Macewan. And I have talked to an advisor. They are actually changing the admission process for the Fall 2016 whereas it is going to be the traditional competitive admission where they will rank the applicants according to AGPA and not the date of application. Just thought I should let you know :) give me a shout if you guys have received your conditional acceptance.
The new UofA's collaborative program are lecture based like MacEwan instead of CBL (MacEwan had CBL aswell in the past). UofA and MacEwan aren't that much different anymore. The nursing education board (NEPAB) ensures education meets the standard. It's true MacEwan will make better bedside nurses than UofA while the latter are better academically. AHS & Covenant Health recruiters found the difference disappear after a year within the workforce.

Hey there! I am a grade 12 student in BC looking to apply to a nursing program (RN) out of high school. I have already considered a couple schools here but I'm also looking at schools in Alberta like MacEwan. I didn't even consider U of A because of what I read about it by the way.
I wanted to apply right away for fall 2016 as soon as I saw the competitive average for GM, but I read that they look and accept people according to the date people have applied for the program, so I don't want to wast $110 on an application that won't even be looked at. Is this true? if so, Im hoping to apply for the jan 2016 intake when it opens.
