Grand Canyon DNP Program

Has anyone completed, or is currently in the DNP program at Grand Canyon University? I can't find much online about reviews of the program.

Would like some info on how it is going/went and about the DNP project.

Thanks!

Hello,

I am contemplating obtaining a DNP with a concentrated focus in Nursing Education through Grand Canyon University. I was Wondering How Clinicals were set up? I live remote and I will have to travel at least 2 hours in either direction of my home to undergo clinicals - I have a unique situation. So I was hoping for some insight as to requirements for the preceptor? or if GCU sets up the preceptor? or I find my own? and if there is a time limit for the 1000 practicum hours to be achieved?

Thanks for any input I may receive,

Lyndsay

I appreciate your enthusiasm for your alma mater and your recent DNP graduation. Congratulations!  I am sure it was well earned. But....

A capstone project for a DNP is not similar to a dissertation. I have attended several presentations of DNP projects and found them more similar to a master's theses. A dissertation includes undertaking independent research, designing your research methodology and collecting and analysing data. You will then spend an additional academic year or more on writing up your dissertation. Now since many master's programs do not require a thesis, maybe your DNP project is similar to that.

A clinical doctorate is a different animal than a PhD.

I completely disagree with you. The DNP project that I completed DID include my own independent research on human subjects that I recruited for my project, I designed my own research methodology, I collected all of my own research data, I analyzed all of my data (I used NVivo software to code my themes based on my own analysis), I drew my own conclusions, I made my own suggestions for future research. A DNP project does not have to be limited to a simple (for example) quality improvement-like MSN project. To suggested otherwise is not keeping up with the DNP. Some DNP programs might still be limiting their curriculum and their projects to as you say, similar to a master's program, but I would suggest those programs would be ones to avoid because they are dated. BTW... your comment is so highly insulting and highly ignorant to all the hard work that goes into a DNP. The comment sounds like it came from an old battle axe nurse put off to pasture working in a college somewhere, gripping onto the pride of past glory days like grim death.

Here is how GCU describes their DNP program which was the question at hand.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is a uniquely practice-focused program, compared to the PhD in nursing, which is research-oriented. Grand Canyon University’s DNP degree is ideal for nurse leaders, public health nurses, nurse informaticists and advanced practice registered nurses who wish to remain at the forefront of patient care. This degree, offered by the College of Nursing and Health Care Professions, guides nurses in applying current research to improve healthcare systems and enhance patient outcomes.

Our program prepares you to work collaboratively as an interprofessional partner with any doctoral-level peer to participate in and/or translate research that can improve the healthcare system and population health outcomes. The program empowers you as a nurse leader to properly utilize and communicate industry terms used in research and evidence-based practice quality improvement processes in the nursing and healthcare industry.

Glad your DNP program was all that you wanted it to be.

Was the use of name-calling a core curriculum course or an elective?

please DO NOT TRY GCU DNP PROGRAM...ONLY FOR MONEY. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK
