Hello,

Did anyone else apply to the Grady Memorial extern for 2020?

Did you here that the first 2 days would be virtual?

She didn’t tell me it was virtual but a girl from my cohort said she told her that. I’m going to email her about in the morning. I might order one uniform. I’m not sure if I should get white, blue, or both.

When she told me it was two days I called to tell her I have class and that's when she told me it will be virtual...but I still have class soo.... I'm just going to wait until the supervisor emails me to understand this process. Uniform was kind of pricey so I would like to know when I actually need it.

Do you know what unit you will be on?

Nope no clue. I asked and she said it’s based off needs after orientation. Did she telL you?

Nope, I’m guessing it’ll be med-surg or ED

Hi ladies!

I applied too. I received my email this morning to pick a date for orientation. I told her couldn't start tomorrow because I am technically still teaching (nursing is going to be my second career) and my agenda was to start around June. So I'm going to do the June 1st date. My three choices were L& D, and Med-Surg: Hemo/Oncology and Med-Surg: Immunology &General Med.

CONGRATS!! So you are a teacher?

I was debating between June 1st or Monday becuse I didn’t apply with April in mind to work. But I think it’ll be a great learning experience and once in a lifetime opportunity to work during a pandemic. I hope we all get to know each other! We won’t know our unit until April 13th.

CONGRATS to you as well! Yes, I teach Special Ed. I have been going to Brenau's evening and weekend part-time program which has allowed me to go to nursing school and still teach full time. I would have said yes to Monday but technically I'm still under contract with school system and I have to be available M-F 7:30-3:00 even though everything is online. Do you know if we are doing day shifts or night shifts or a mixture?

It seems it will be PRN so it’s a mixture. PRN is suppose to be when you are available but you must work the minimum hour requirements. But with everything going on I’m not sure how it would be and depending on the availability of the unit they grant you.
And that’s cool! I was suppose to attend brenua but unfortunately I was young and and dumb and didn’t want to move so far from my boyfriend at the time haha.

cheers though! ? what an awesome profession. You might be interested in nurse education later with that background.

Hi everyone,

congratulations to the ones who have been accepted! Thank you for opening this discussion btw.

I applied to the externship almost by the deadline because one of my professors hadn't finished his recommendation letter, but I haven't heard anything yet. I'm wondering if it's because I was so close to the deadline and maybe they are going by the ones who applied first?

I have tried to get in touch with --------- at---------------‬, is that the best contact number or should I be calling someone else about an update? Thank you!!
