Hi Nurse Beth,
I graduated in 1993 with a BSN. I have been working as an LPN for the past past five years. I want a refresher program to help me to pass my board.
Dear Wants to Take NCLEX ,
Good for you! While 23 years is a long time, if you are determined, you can do this. Check with your state Board of Nursing (BON) to see if there are any time restrictions on taking the NCLEX after finishing nursing school in your state.
The good thing is that you are practicing as an LPN, which really keeps you in the loop and current.
Some BONs post the names of companies who provide refresher courses on their website (while not endorsing them). Another source is to google RN refresher course†(in your area/state).
In addition to a refresher course, also look for an NCLEX prep course in your area. It will provide you practice with NCLEX type multiple choice questions. There are also inexpensive smartphone apps designed to help you prepare for the NCLEX. You answer questions in different categories and it tells you if your answer is right or wrong, while providing a rationale.
Apply for licensure by exam to your state board of nursing to start the exam process at the same time, as permission to exam can take a bit of time.
All of this will take some money and effort, but it will be so worth it! Keep us posted, future
RN!
Best wishes,
Nurse Beth
