Graduate nurse programs in Jacksonville, FL?

Published

hello all! i'm currently in my last semester of nursing school and i will be graduating by the end of this month and i am very interested in graduate nurse programs in jacksonville, fl. does anyone out there have any experience with these programs? or any further information?

so far, i have only found gn programs for shands, st. vincent's and mayo. i think baptist hires gns but they do not have an actual program outlined on the website. i would love to work as a graduate nurse for the experience and education. :):):)

I am a current RN and there is slim picking out here. I passed my NCLEX a week a go and I finally got someone on the phone. From what I was told, they won't talk to you unless you have passed your NCLEX. I applied for the GN position at Shands and heard nothing. My advice is pass your test. They do have New Grad positions, which are the internships. Mayo opens in May aorund the 30th. Flagler has one as well. Baptist south is full right now as far as new grad go. Good luck and PM if you have any more questions.

Thanks! Well I've already graduated now and I'm studying for the NCLEX and I'm still looking for a job. I'm not so picky about the GN programs anymore, I'm just worried about not getting a job. It seems that the online submission of applications won't do much for me, as I should be talking to nurse manager on the phone or via e-mail. Have you landed a job so far?

For the most part, Shands only hires those that were CNA's or PCTs at their hospital while they attended nursing school. I know of at least one classmate that started in Home Health and was recently hired at StV's. OPMC has NG slots and some classmates landed there.

Mayo is a challenge to get accepted to.

Recently, I checked out StV's website and they have Tele floor RN positions open that don't ask for experience so that might be a good place to start.

You also can find a position at places like West Jax Health and Rehab (LTC/Acute, Subacute SNF). You can start there and transfer to a hospital later if you choose.

Hi FLmomof5,

I was called today for an interview for West Jax Health and Rehab. I just wanted to know how the interview went and did you get hired. I applied there because I saw your post and they quickly called me back. Very excited and nervous at the same time. Any advise.

I was hired and I am orienting on the LTC side. Their normal orientation is only 3 days on the floor and that is not enough time to get the swing of things. It was shared with me that you can ask for more orientation time with no problems. It is challenging, but I am learning. One other orientee had a family crisis and so as of yesterday no longer works there and the DON said she already hired another nurse....was that you?

Well I was hired part-time today I did the fingerprints. Not sure when I am going to do the drug test they haven't told me yet. I don't know if I am going to be on the LTC or the other side. Just wanted to give you thanks, because of you I applied. :thankya:
