Graduate Nurse nervous about new job

Specialties LTC Directors

I am a recent graduate and have had much difficulty in finding a job as an RN. The only thing that I have stumbled upon so far is working for an agency and traveling to different nursing homes around the area. My fear is that since I will be traveling, I won't have much of an orientation at each place, unless I volunteer my time to orient, which I am happy to do. I am a quick learner, but I am looking for suggestions, opinions, and anything else anyone has to offer in order to be more successful as a graduate nurse in a nursing home. Thank you!

Oh my. You've never worked as a nurse since you have been licensed? Any you're going to be an agency nurse? Bad, bad idea!

You're right, you will get no orientation & you will be thrown to the wolves. In my honest opinion you have no chance of being successful in this position. You will have no idea of what's expected, no idea of who the residents are and no idea of how to organize yourself. Please reconsider this decision. It is just not worth it to you.

Sorry for the negative response, but it's the truth.

Ditto what Nascar Nurse said.
