Grad school admission interview

Published

Hi! I am interviewing to get into grad school this week. I was not too happy with my GRE scores but they will do. What kind of questions should I look for in the interview process? Can anyone advise me. I am applying to MS University for Women.

These were some of the questions I was asked in my grad school interview 2 months ago: (1) What are your strong points/best qualities? Weak points? (2) How do you contribute to the improvement of patient care at your current jobas an RN? (3) Why are you interested in this program specifically? (4) Describe the most challenging patient situation you had to deal with at your current job as an RN. (5)What are some of your hobbies/other interests besides nursing? (6) What made you want to become an RN? Why do you want to pursue advanced studies/become an NP now? I know I was asked several more questions but I can't remember them! Don't forget to ask questions too-I knew all about the program I was applying to, but I didn't know about things like financial assistance, if the classes were grouped all on one day (so I wouldn't have to take off more than a couple of days off per week from work) , if I could do the program part-time (yes, thank goodness), etc. Good luck!!! :)

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I am so nervous about the whole process. That compounded with work and my work in the BSN program currently. It's a load. All the feedback I can get is helpful. Thanks!!

Hey! I'm interviewing for grad school this week, too! I'm trying to get into the online FNP program at UT Memphis! I read the reply you received earlier and I have been told these are exactly what they will ask. Other questions I have heard they ask are: 1) What computer skills do you have 2) Are you on a listserv? 3) How have you prepared yourself for the role as a graduate student? and 4) Are you in any Nursing Organizations e.g. American Nurses' Association, etc. Make sure you are familiar with their mission and philosophy and courses you will be taking. Does this help, too?

Many thanks to you! My interview is at 10 in the morning. I feel more prepared just having some idea of what to expect. Thanks alot. Good luck to you too!

How did your interview go? Was it today? Mine is Wednesday. I will be glad when it's over!

I think my interview went well. How was yours?

My interview went well. In fact, I was told less than a week later that I was accepted. When will you hear?

I just had my interview for a direct entry master's program. The interview was with two faculty members. I was completely nervous and have mixed feelings about how well I did. Most of the interview consisted of prompts or comments as opposed to direct questions. However, here are some of the questions in the interview:

How are you in the sciences?

How do you feel about not working for 15 months? (The first 15 months of this program prohibits students from working)

How well do you handle stress?

What population do you see yourself working with?

Do you have any questions for us?

The interviewers had my file in front of them and asked a lot of questions specific to my situation. Beware that if you have anything questionable in your application, they will probably pick at it. Apparently one of my references had written something that drew negative attention ( I was shocked!) and I had to defend myself. That was a little uncomfortable.

Hopefully I will recieve word that I was accepted, nonetheless.
