GPC Fall 2011

Published

Hello all! I've applied to GPC, waiting for my letter. Just in case I don't make the cut for this fall, I wanted to look into the LPN program at Dekalb Tech. Has anyone heard anything about that program? Is it easier to get in there and bridge to RN?? Need advice!!!!! Thanks!!!

I'm not sure if it's easier or not. I have a current classmate that is an LPN and just took the TEAS. She's going for the bridge as well. It seems like the long way to go though. She's been an LPN for 3 years I think. But she did say the competition isn't nearly as stiff. Maybe you could do that until you get your acceptance letter. If you don't get it, you will have less competition for the bridge program.

This is what it says on GPC's website:

The Georgia Perimeter College Nursing Department offers an LPN to RN Bridge Program, which upon completion, confers an Associate Degree in Nursing.

The Department of Nursing is offering an LPN-RN Bridge Track for those students who are currently Licensed Practical Nurses and have been working within the last two years as an LPN, or are in an LPN program and will be licensed by January, 2011.

This track is a three semester track, offered at Rockdale Career Academy. It includes a one-evening-a-week course and a one-day-a-week clinical.

Good luck!

Hi - I graduated from DeKalb Tech in September '09. It's a good program and you can really get out what you put into it. It's just as tough as any other program though, so don't think that it's much easier than an RN program just because its for LPNs. When you get out on the floor, you'll be almost as responsible (if not as responsible) for your patients as an RN, so they teach you as much as you need to know (plus some) for when you get out of school.

I've submitted an application for the GPC LPN-RN bridge for 2012, so I'm just waiting to see what happens! The competition is a little easier to go from LPN to RN than to get straight into an RN program. If you're willing to consider either option, then put an application into every nursing program within driving distance! It's better to have more than one to choose from than to put all of your eggs in one basket!

Good luck with your decision!!

Hi,

I was accepted to Dekalb Tech's LPN program for Fall 11. Did you find it to be worth it to get your lpn? Are you currently working in the field?

Hi Mekanem,

Did you know of anybody dismissed from the program because of their backgound. I have traffic violations on my background and wanted to know how this works. Also, where did you guys do your clinicals?
