Nursing Students SRNA

I know that GPA has been an issue on this site and i have read most of them. But i just finished my first yr of nursing school and i got two B's and it has made me feel like i now i am going to not make it in to CRNA school. I guess i am looking for some comfort here, but really these grades do not show whom i am. In all reality i had mostly all A's but started to relaxe becuase i was not having troubles and started to party and got out which dropped, in each class, atleat a C on a test to make a B average. So what i am looking for i some hopw that i have not just screwed myself. Any infor. would be great.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and aim higher again...all doable if your heart is in it.

first semester nursing school gpa: 2.4 accepted to three schools.

fear not.

B's are not a problem. Even a C here and there (speaking personally) doesn't doom you. And it's your first year, you have a lot of time to get some A's and get the GPA up. If you got 2 B's it can't be too low anyway, assuming you carried two or three other courses.

Seriously, don't waste time worrying about it.

Just wanted to thank all that responed. I guess i just need to vent after this first semster and after seeing all of the replies that state that they just had one "b" and were put on waiting list made me stressed. Thanks again.

hey guy

My 1st year GPA in nsg school was 2.5. I spent it majoring in chicks and beer. It wasent until clinical that i took it seriously. By the end of the whole thing it took alot to get my cummulative GPA to a 3.1. The 3rd and 4th years of my degree my GPA was 3.5-3.8.

A good admissions committee will recognize your trend in working harder and increasing GPA. Secondly, if your GPA is lower than you would like, take some classes while your doing your years of experience. I did horrible in a couple of particular classes so over the last few years i have taken classes (about 21 credits worth) and managed a 3.9 GPA for those. The admissions comittee noticed that when i had my interview.

You also have to be realistic. In order to get into competitive programs like Nurse Anesthesia you have to stand out. Some things that make applicants stand out (per a friend on an admissions committee for med school) are:

- Research

- publication

- post grad classes taken & post grad GPA

- Career accomplishments

- reference letters

- Masters Degree

- Strong Interview

So if you apply with a 3.0 GPA and have nothing extra to make you stand out and others apply with the same, or higher, GPA yet better "stand-outs" they will get in before you. This is why I believe that the majority of students accepted are probably well past the one year experience mark.

hope this helps

GPA isn't everything.

I interviewed at TCU with a 4.0 GPA and was rejected.
