Keep in mind that if you repeat a class, the NS usually look at the most recent grade...so if you repeat and do worse, you've just shot yourself in the foot. So if you had a B in a pre-req class, IMO don't try to repeat it in the hopes of an A. I'd repeat it only if it was a C or worse and if I was confident I could do better. Sometimes it may be worth it just to take the C, especially if it was a subject that you struggled the entire time with.

Also, a few NS count both grades--the old and the repeat--for the class and not just the newer one. It's rare but it does happen.

I know that it can be really tough to get into nursing school based on GPA. Your 3.1 is a pretty good GPA, but I do know how hard it is when so many people are trying to get it. Before I transfered to my current school I was at a University that told me that they would not even consider applications that were less than 4.0. So I know how you feel. Have you ever considered going to a school where they concentrate on just nursing, like Galen College or even a place with a waitlist, some community colleges here accept you if your GPA is 2.5 and above, but the drawback is that you do have to wait like 2-3 years, but the upside is that everyone gets their chance. Good luck!

I am pretty sure you can't just repeat classes b/c you want to improve your grades. I think you have to have a D or a F to repeat a class. This varies w/ schools but I am pretty sure this is how most schools are like anyways.

Not necessarily. At my school I repeated 3 'C' classes to raise my GPA. Our academic policy is such that whatever grade we get on the repeat completely replaces the original grade--that worked out to my advantage, as I got Cs, but you could potentially worsen your grade. There is, however, a limit to how many times you can repeat.

My school counted both grades into the pre-nursing GPA. Definitely check your school's policy.

ShannonRN2010 were you accepted into the nursing program with a 2.5?
