3.1 GPA good enough for DC/MD/VA schools?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey everyone

I'm currently a surgical technologist student and would love to apply to nursing school once I'm done. I have a 3.1 GPA. I also have to work to pay bills so it would be ideal to get into an evening/weekend program. Are my expectations of getting into a nursing program realistic? Any pointers will be appreciated

Hi Emma! I'm completing my pre-reqs at a small liberal arts college on the eastern shore of MD and looking at nursing schools in the same area. I believe that the minimum GPA for most of the schools in the area is a 3.0, but to be competitive it should be higher. The articulation agreement that my college has with UMBC's SON requires a 3.25 GPA. I'm definitely no expert--just offering up what I know.

Thanks for your input Emmy. So far, everything I've seen online points towards me not getting in but I'm trying to stay optimistic. I'm willing to go through an RN program instead of BSN directly...sigh... I plan on applying to all the community colleges in the area in the hopes that helps my chances ?

You need to contact the schools. Talk with someone in the department.
