Question About Air Force Summer 2012 NTP Board

Hello Everyone,

So I'm currently nearing the end of my second semester of nursing school with three more semesters to go. I will be graduating in May 2013. I've talked to my local Air Force health professions recruiter and he informed me that the next NTP board will be late summer 2012. I was under the impression that you can apply if you are within 365 days of graduation, but the recruiter told me that I would only be able to submit my packet if the NTP board was in fall 2012 or spring 2013 and that I would not be able to apply for the one in summer 2012. Is he right that I won't be able to apply for the one in summer 2012 even though I will be within 365 days of graduation? Are there any recruiters on here that can clear this up for me? Or maybe an Air Force NTP applicant? Thanks!

How many of you applied for Med/Surg and how many for OB? I talked to my recruiter and she said there are going to be about 40 chosen for Med/Surg and only 10 or so for OB for next year's NTP program! Eeeek!

Med surg. Don't be too concerned about the numbers your recruiter gave you...if you read back through all the posts in this and the other thread you'll see that we've all been hearing different numbers. My recruiter won't even venture a guess because she says the number of slots isn't made public prior to the board...so who knows where the other recruiters are getting their numbers. Could be just estimates based on their experience with past boards...could be just guesses...or maybe they have access to info my recruiter doesn't. Who knows :)

Did med-surg as well. I second what LN75 said about the numbers. Really is hard to go with any of the numbers we're hearing. I sure like to see the higher estimates though. I've also see that for the most part you'll get your info on when you go to COT with when you get all the acceptance information. The days just keep dragging by..........and dragging.

Seriously...I'm trying to stay super busy this summer until I head back to school at the end of August...but I'm ready to find out now! I have another thread going, and heard the board meets around the 25th of this month or something..so it might be late August/early september that we hear :( more waiting! Ughhhh

I'm also awaiting the results for this round. I heard we shall find out the end of August/ early September. The wait is a killer. I wonder if we are not selected for this round, do we have to do the whole application process again or does out recruiter just resubmit what we have? Getting the LORs are a pain and some people do not like taking time out of their lives to write up a quick LOR. It would suck to have to re ask for our friends, co workers, and professors to write another one.

Don't quote me for truth on this, but I heard they sometimes make notes on people's application packets about what they could do better in future applications. If your LOR's are great they could still be used but say they are generalized and unspecific they might make a note of it and that is when you would get someone to write a new one. I doubt you would need to write a new one every time you applied because if that person said all the great things they know about you then what else would they write?

Also if you got a LOR from someone who was high up (say in work/military/government) such as a senator, CEO or a high ranking military official they usually question them and if the person really doesn't know you personally they will disregard that LOR. Again, don't take this as absolute truth but just something I heard from my recruiter =]

I'm sure your LOR's are amazing though!

Thanks for the info and words of encouragement! I've seen a lot of high gpa's on here. I have to say my overall seems lower than most but RN is in range. My overall: 3.2 Rn: 3.8

Don't let it discourage you! Not one thing can knock us from getting the acceptance. Hopefully you have a good list of activities and other things. Trust me...after looking on here, I wasn't happy with my 3.55 gpa, but I try to think of all the positives! All my military friends say confidence gets you a helluva long way! So think of your positives! It's all about ur mental attitude :)

Did your recruiters say they look at nursing GPA or overall GPA, or both? I didn't differentiate my nursing GPA from my overall because I took all my prerequisites at the same school so its all clumped together.

He only said the lowest any could be was a 3.0 and it's very competitive. I would assume they focus more on the BSN GPA, but I'm not sure.

I have been told that the board is taking 30 for the NTP 2013 Med/Surg and 5 OB.
