1st Base Assignment USAF for 2010, need advice

I will be graduating in about a year and I need to pick my dream bases. My options are: Andrews, Eglin, Keesler, Lackland, Langley, Nellis, Travis, Wright-Patterson, Mt. Home, Elmendorf and Landstuhl. I would like to work on a trauma floor or in the ER. Please let me know if you have any advice on which base would be best for trauma/ER and which bases are nice in general.

I just got accepted into the Air Force, and I'll be at Langley AFB - from what I understand you can't go overseas for the first 3 years (unless you include Elmendorf AFB - you can go there). I'm from Mtn. Home, and believe me you DON'T want to go there (I do love Idaho though).

BabyRN--I take it you'll be L&D or NICU? I'm at Langley right now. Let me know if I can help you with anything at all. It's a busy unit with lots to learn. Our team is great--very high energy and positive attitudes. When will you be coming?

Laura V--I'd take Langley off your list. It's a nice area to live in, but if you want trauma you won't get it at Langley. Our ICW is rarely utilized and the med-surg nurses say they are bored out of their minds most of the time.

I'm going to work L&D/post-partum/newborn nursery from my understanding (no NICU), and I'll be there at the end of September (I'm super-super excited). Do you also work L&D? I have lots of questions, and one of my good friends from high school is also stationed at Langley, and my husband and I are planning on sending him a bunch of questions (I only found out on Tuesday), but he's not a nurse and I would love to ask you a bunch of stuff!

I live in Boise and I'm trying to get into the active duty Air Force stationed down in Mt. Home. I go to MEPS next month and have my nursing interview. What do you know about Mt. Home AF Base and nursing down there?

I'm actually from Mountain Home, and my dad was stationed there (he's from Mtn. Home too, and he got stationed there - confusing huh), but I don't know anything about MHAFB hospital, all I know is that it is a 10 bed hospital, and they do a little bit of everything. I don't know anybody who has worked there recently (I know someone who worked there 11 years ago). Are you in Boise too?
