Got a question about Penn Valley????

Published

I have read so many things that say that the wait is so long for the program and all the bad things. Is there anyone who didn't wait forever????? I am taking the prereq. in the fall and a few gen ed classes and I have already put in my app. for the nursing program. I will be taking the net soon. I was very excited but now a little discouraged. I just don't want it to take forever!!!

hi! im in the lpn program at penn valley right now. and yes the wait is horrible for the rn program at penn valley. i have actually heard people giving up and doing something else because of the wait. i decided to do the lpn route and got into the program really fast. besides i wanted to make sure i want to be a nurse for the rest of my life. and i think theres more benefits to becoming an lpn first. its only a 1 year program and then just 1 more year after that for yuor rn so its the same amount of time, you are more prepared then the other rns in the program, and most hospitals will pay for you to get your rn. not to mention you'll be makin pretty good money while you are getting your rn. well i hope this information helped ya!

hi all! i am new to the board; i actually found it because of these posts! lol!:)

i am working toward completing all the general ed requirements for the adn program through penn valley too. i have not actually started any classes at that location, taking other required courses as they are available for my schedule through other locations. i have taken one internet class through there, and scheduled for another this semester. i have to say, i agree with the disorganization and confusing instruction on how to proceed. i am not a kid out of high school, i am a re-entry adult student coming from a professional finance background in the pharma industry. i am beginning to be concerned that i might need to look elsewhere to complete this program? i have not even submitted my file to them because i had been told it would be better to complete everything other than the core nursing classes before i do. so this thread is upsetting to me at the least. i did not plan to enter the core classes (the only thing i have left for my adn) until next spring. i opted to take a 2-semester honors course so i will have to take anatomy and physiology next summer, and microbiology with my core (funny my honors class is bioethics!)

i am hearing the same things -- the wait is horrible, however, when i ask at the nursing office they contend it is only one semester at most, and odd years are for the part time program. this is also stated in the information packet? so why do i keep hearing of a "wait"?:smackingf who is the misinformed!?!?!?

another question i had was why should i enroll in the lpn program and pay double for the same result. should i not be able to get the same education going through the adn program if not more than the lpn? i noticed the classes are different than the adn even with the bridge? it seems i would pay $10k for lpn and then another $14k+ for the rn program, or just a straight $14k and only have a few classes to double with an aa to transfer? it seems to make more sense to just do the straight rn.

i feel like i am being drained of energy and money so i am going to take a look at other schools. what made this appealing to me is the affordability, but i am also paying out of district fees.

thanks for lending me your ear on this one, i just hear the same things as the op and find many others that seem to experience what i am in this. :(

Last time I checked, which was last fall, the wait to get into the program at PV was 2 years after you have completed pre-reqs and taken the NET. This is what I was told by the staff, but someone else may have had a different experience lately.

I think that their even/weekend RN program is supposed to be starting a class every year starting in January, so that may help decrease the wait time. Also with NAU taking 50 students a year that may help take a few off of the waitlist for PV.

And no they don't call it a waitlist, they call it your "personal wait time". Certainly felt like a wait list to me!

Good luck to you:)

Yeah, the wait is two years. No, they dont tell you that. I think going LPN then bridging is a good idea--but heard the wait for that is a year long (and they put 10 LPN's in at a time so I dont know what the wait is on getting into the RN after LPN)--you could do your pre-reqs and gen ed stuff while you wait to get into LPN because you cannot do them while in the RN program--you would die.

The program is a GREAT program, tho. GL! :)
