You never know what to expect. Some days you're twiddling your thumbs, the next you're back is up against the wall. Where I worked, we usually had no more than four patients if the ED was full.
It also depends on the type of ED. A small community hospital will be different from a large urban trauma center.
Congratulations on the new job!

A little background about myself I have work on private ambulances for 5 years before I went to nursing. As a new grad I worked in the LTC/SNF for about 1.5 years; even though I had a lot of patients for one nurse I still didn't think it was hard if you know how to manage your time. Currently I am at a LTAC and even though I have less patients the load is sometimes harder than if I was at a LTC/SNF. Anyways, I just got hired a hospital ED and I was wondering what is there to expect when it comes to work load. I always wanted to be in the ED and I hope some of you have thoughts to offer. Thanks!
