Got low Kaplan scores and still passed NCLEX

Published

I am writing this to reduce anxiety of those who are preparing for NCLEX via Kaplan and scoring low on question trainers and Qbanks. Don't worry too much about your low QT /Qbank scores, scoring below 60 doesn't mean you will fail NCLEX. Just make sure you review the questions you got wrong thoroughly on QT 6,7, and in the Qbanks. That's what I did, and I passed NCLEX-RN in 85 questions, even though most of my QT/QB scores were less than 60. My trainer scores in order from 1 to 7 were 60, 65, 49, 52, 66, 54, 49 with overall average of 56.7 . For the Qbank I used all of the questions with an average of 57 overall. I found the NCLEX exam to be slightly less difficult than Kaplan questions. I got many select all questions and standard multiple choice. The sata q's weren't as hard as kaplans sata.

I spent about 2.5 months preparing for this exam studying almost everyday (with breaks for 1-2 days in between) using Kaplan for Questions and Saunders for content (when needed). The ATT took a month and a half to arrive for me. I was doubtful about passing boards when I got a 54/49 on QT 6/7 close to my scheduled date, so I rescheduled my exam two weeks later from my original date. After two more weeks of studying, I found the courage to take the exam, and passed. I felt that Kaplan had prepared me well for NCLEX, I wasn't surprised or confused with most questions on NCLEX. My recommendation is to use Kaplan as much as possible and remediate 6,7, and qbank questions answered wrong. From the incorrect questions study the content, medications, lab values, preop/postop, teachings before/after diagnostic procedures, etc. Don't worry over low trainer scores too much, just remediate, understand content, pray, and take the test. Thanks for reading and good luck….with enough preparation and confidence you can surely pass NCLEX.

Reading your post gives me positive energy and more confidence! I'm taking my exam Nov 6 and still kind of freaking out but trying not to. lol. Been doing about 50-175 questions a day and going over every rationale. I know you say not to focus on scores but it's still pretty hard. My scores are

QT 1 - 41%

QT 2 - 43%

QT 3 - 57%

QT 4 - 56%

QT 5 - 49%

QT 6 - 50%

QT 7 - Taking on Monday

Sample Test 1 56%, 2. 52%, 3. 87%, 4. 20% DAMN SATA.

Qbank I'm averaging around 54%.

Would like to know your input. Hoping to pass the NCLEX next Friday!!
