Hello, I am located in NYC and graduated with my BSN in 2021. During this time I was working as a medical scribe in an emergency department. This was during covid and when I graduated I felt very burnt out and defeated. I subsequently decided to pursue other career paths that haven't quite felt right. Recently met an older nurse who reignited my passion for it.
I called the New York board of nursing asking where I go from here and was told I would need to take some courses before I can apply to take the NCLEX again. The person on the phone was not really helpful with answering my questions and I'm very confused. She told me there was a list of schools providing these classes but I can't seem to find them anywhere. She also said I would need to fill out an application and send my transcript in. I tried googling and am left even more confused. Would anyone be able to give me some guidance?

From the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions Instructions for Applying for Licensure as a RN page, RN Pathway #1:
Quote ADDITIONAL STEP IF YOU GRADUATED NURSING SCHOOL OVER 4 YEARS AGO. You must complete a NYSED Approved Infection Control Course from an approved provider or qualify for an exemption.

Best wishes.

Ask for clarification from the board of nursing. No matter what anyone on here says it doesn't matter. What matters is what they say. If you are confused get clarification. Write down what they say. Ask if you can get it in an email so you can look it over. Good luck.
